My name is Laura Gutierrez, I am a Bilingual Staff Therapist at Pennock Center for Counseling. I was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to Miami when I was 10 years old, then in my mid-20s I moved to Colorado to enjoy the solitude and peace of the mountains. I work from 9am to 7PM from Monday to Thursday. Currently I work from home and provide counseling services via video. My main goal in the initial session is to get to know you, provide psychoeducation on the counseling process, and explore with you what you want to gain from therapy.
I obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Psychology at the University of Miami and my Master of Arts degree specializing in Psychology at the University of the Rockies. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor registered in the state of Colorado. My previous counseling experience consisted of providing in-home therapy in Florida where I had the privilege of working with a culturally diverse population. I have worked in several different social service settings including a community mental health center, schools, and homes. I have worked with children, teens, adults, families, and the elderly. I have gained valuable experience doing couple’s counseling at Pennock Center, but I specialize in individual counseling.
My clinical approach is eclectic, client centered, and strengths based. I recognize that every client has different needs and so I utilize different therapeutic modalities including but not limited to: cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectic behavior therapy, parts work also known as individual family system, family systems approach, solution focused approach, and tapping solutions. I also like to integrate play therapy, art therapy, gestalt therapy, and narrative therapy techniques into my approach.
