My name is Laura Amelia Gutierrez and I am the Bilingual Staff Therapist here at Pennock Center for Counseling. I was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to Miami when I was 10 years old, then in my mid 20s, moved to Colorado to enjoy the solitude and peace of the mountains.
I obtained my Bachelor’s degree of Arts majoring in Psychology at the University of Miami and my Master’s degree of Arts specializing in Psychology at the University of the Rockies. I am a Registered Psychotherapist in the state of Colorado in the process of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. My previous counseling experience consisted of providing in-home therapy in Florida were I had the privilege of working with a culturally diverse population. I have worked in a number of different social service settings including a community mental health center, schools, and homes. I have worked with children, teens, adults, families, and the elderly. I have gained valuable experience doing couple’s counseling at Pennock, but I specialize in individual counseling.
My clinical approach is eclectic, client centered and strengths based. I recognize that every client has different needs and so I utilize different therapeutic modalities including but not limited to: cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectic behavior therapy, family systems approach, solution focused approach, couple’s counseling, tapping solutions, emotion focused therapy techniques, play therapy techniques, art therapy techniques, narrative therapy techniques, integrative psychotherapy, and imaginal exposure therapy.
