Taking care of our mental health is an act of self love. In this month of May where we focus on Mental Health Awareness, may we be reminded that our mental health is just as important as our physical health. Below are some recommendations to help you make a positive impact on your mental health:

  • Practice healthy sleep hygiene. The CDC recommends that adults get a minimum of 7 hours of sleep a night.
  • Practice gratitude. Gratitude can decrease depression, anxiety, difficulties with chronic pain, and risk of disease.
  • Move. Walk, run, dance, hike, swim…just to name a few.
  • Nourish your body and your mind. Be aware of what you are feeding your body and your mind.
  • Connect with others. Catch up with an old friend, join a club, attend a religious service of choice, or spend time with family.
  • Focus on positivity. Focusing on the good helps nurture our emotions and helps contribute to a healthier body, improved relationships, and an overall sense of fulfillment.
  • Do not be afraid to ask for help. “it’s okay not to be okay”. Just because you are not doing well doesn’t mean you have to pretend like everything is fine. Admitting that something is wrong is always the first step in improving mental health.
